PITTSBORO -- Pittsboro, North Carolina, Bed and Breakfast Lodging, NC Accommodations
Merchants, students, artists, and farmers are all calling the Chatham County seat home these days. Diversity is the word of the day in Pittsboro, where the North Carolina Zen Center is located, as well as antique shops, art galleries, and bio-fuel research. Southern Living magazine was hooked—they featured Pittsboro in their April 2004 issue. Chatham County was born in 1771, and the first courthouse there was built just south of the future Pittsboro. A large public square was formed and became the popular gathering place. During “Courtweek”, when County justices of the peace ruled on local cases, there was an open market held in the square. Dealers in jewelry, medicine, and dry goods operated there, as well as farmers, musicians, actors, and people practicing medicine. Such a busy place! Pittsboro is still a busy place, sponsoring its annual Fall Festival, which is packed with things to see and do. Stick around—a few weeks later is the well-known Pittsboro Christmas Parade, officially welcoming the season. Mexican food, ice cream sodas, barbecue, wine, organic produce. All of these treats await your discovery. Arts centers, museums, live music, theater performances, planetarium, zoo, swimming…the list goes on. Check in to one of our local Bed and Breakfast Inns and experience for yourself the myriad of things to do in our town!
